The African Union recognises the diaspora as its sixth region, added to the five on the continent. Colombia has been an observer member of the African Union since 2008 and is the third country in the Americas with the largest African-descendant population.
People-to-people diplomacy does not wait for states to agree: it is organisations, community councils and universities that weave the ties. We facilitate delegations, cooperation agreements and South-South trade relations between organisations of the sixth region and the African continent.
