African religions and spirituality
African religious traditions and spiritual systems, cosmologies and the transmission of spiritual knowledge.
African religions crossed the Atlantic and remade themselves in the Americas under persecution, often hidden behind the Catholic calendar of saints. Naming them as religions —not as folklore or superstition— is itself an act of reparation.
The Palenquero lumbalú, wake songs and the funeral rites of the Pacific are part of that living spiritual system. We document, study and accompany their transmission without extracting them from the community that sustains them.
